MASSAGE MATS, 2021
CERAMIC, GLAZE, ALUMINIUM
Of the select possessions in my family home that survived house changes and spring cleans was Mum's massage devices. Flanked by this lies an intergenerational item left behind by Grandma, a handmade back scratcher. These objects carry the implicit weight of medicinal benefit, as well as my own psychological renaissance through artistic exploration of facilitated domestic care. Focusing on ‘feet’ as a disparate corporal locus, the work utilises possessions to mimic the form and effect of reflexology walking paths. A tile and stool, detritus of mass production will carry the inherent weight of ancestral memorabilia through my particular laboured practice.
